Limpet

The cone-shaped shellfish on rocks and harbour walls. Knock one off, scoop the meat, and you have a wrasse bait you did not buy. It is a local, close-range bait — not a substitute for peeler on a bass tide, and not every coast’s first choice.

1. 1Knock the shell off the rock with a blunt tool — check local gathering rules first.
2. 2Scoop the meat. Hook it once or twice so the point is clear.
3. 3A wrap of elastic if the meat is sloppy.
4. 4Fish it close, in the kelp, on a wrasse or float rig.
