Choosing a rod
Match the rod to the mark, not to a catalogue ‘max casting’ number.

A 12–13 ft rod rated 4–6 oz is the UK default. It casts a grip lead, holds in a side wind, and still lets you feel a rattle. A 14 ft ‘tournament’ rod is not a beginner tool.
