Habitat
Estuary mouths, some open beaches near river systems, dusk and dark. Regional — Wales, the West, Scotland, some East Coast rivers.

A migratory trout that uses some UK estuaries and beaches, especially after dark in the west and north. This is not a general sea-fish. Rules, seasons and licences are different from bass and flounder.

- Silver when fresh from the sea, with x-shaped spots
- Not a bass — small mouth relative to a bass, adipose fin present
From a small ‘school’ fish to several pounds. Treat every one as a game fish.
