Casting without hurting anyone

Lead hanging a foot or two from the tip, reel set so the line will go, finger on the spool (fixed spool) or thumb on the bar (multiplier). Look behind you. Sweep, don’t snatch. Let go when the rod is at about one o’clock, not when you are already falling over.
