What to take on a first trip
A rod that matches the mark, a reel that is full, a leader, a lead, a rig you can tie, bait in a cool bag, light, and a way home.

Beach: 12–13 ft 4–6 oz, 8000-size fixed spool filled to the lip, 15–20 lb mono, 60 lb shock leader, 4–5 oz grip leads, a two-hook flapper, size 4–1 hooks. Harbour or bass: lighter. Rocks: stronger, shorter.
