Shock leader
A heavier length between the lead and the mainline so a 5 oz grip lead does not snap 18 lb on the punch.

10 lb of leader for every ounce of lead, as a starting point: 60 lb for a 6 oz lead. Many UK anglers just spool 60 lb and stop worrying. Tapered leaders exist; a blood knot or a leader knot to 60 lb mono also works.
